Oakfield Primary School Carrickfergus

Term 2 in Mrs Keaveney’s Nursery Class

1st Apr 2026

Term 2 has flown by in nursery, we have learned and developed so much along the way!

The term began in January with some snow, which we loved exploring both indoors and outdoors. There was lots of physical development as we played on sledges, and we enjoyed observing freezing and melting happening right before our eyes.

We welcomed visits from Poppin Pilates, Football Fun and our P6 buddies, all of which supported the development of our communication and gross motor skills. We also enjoyed our first visit to our friends in Carrickfergus Manor, where we sang songs and listened to a story together.

In February, we learned how to make pancakes, chose our favourite toppings and counted which ones were most popular, developing lots of early mathematical skills. We also learned about looking after our teeth and explored healthy and unhealthy foods.

As part of Shared Education, we visited Acorn, where we loved playing with new friends and taking part in fun activities. Our grown-ups joined us for a Jo Jingles session, followed by snack time together.

During March, we continued to develop our artistic and creative skills through drawing and painting. Our fine motor skills were strengthened through finger gym activities, and our imaginations shone through as we dressed up as pirates, doctors and princesses.

We loved taking part in our World Book Day vocabulary parade and looked amazing in our costumes. We also enjoyed another session with Poppin Pilates and spent more time with our P6 buddies. On our second visit to Carrickfergus Manor, we sang songs, recited a poem and gifted wooden flowers that we had decorated ourselves.

The final week of term was filled with Easter fun, including decorating gingerbread chicks, going on an Easter egg hunt and creating Easter crafts.

We finished the term in the best possible way with Grandparents Day and a visit from Wee Critters. We loved seeing and learning about the creatures Allan brought along, and we enjoyed sharing snack time with our grown-ups to end a fantastic term.
